If there is one thing I can not control, it’s my inclination to be “counter culture.” So when something like The Grammys comes up, my first thought is to make fun of the event and then skip it all together. But then I check Twitter and see that EVERYONE says the exact same thing “Ugghh…I don’t care about the Grammys. So stupid. I’m not gonna watch.” So since the public majority are choosing to reject the Grammys, I get this HUGE URGE to watch them. Like I said, it’s something I can’t help.
But what shocked me about the Grammys was how truly good they were. You can roll your eyes all you want, but it’s true. Not only were the performances pretty fabulous, but the winners were generally the folks who deserved it.
Even the most jaded music fans can admit Adele is a true and rare talent. Well, she swept everything. The Foo Fighters, one of the last popular rock n’ roll bands in the world, were nominated for a bunch of shit, won some awards and had TWO performances. Bruno Mars nearly stole the show with some of his old school 60s doo-wop shit. And for every lame Taylor Swift performance, there was a jaw dropping The Civil Wars intro. There was no Ke$ha, no LMFAO, or Skrillex. This is what everyone thinks the Grammys are but forget that’s the MTV Music Video Awards.
And even though the show took place in the shadow of Whitney Houston, Jennifer Hudson reminded us pure talent will always be appreciated over anything else.
So feel free to scoff and roll your eyes, but it’s too bad…you missed a pretty good show.
