ANTIVIRAL: This was my first movie we saw at FANTASTIC FEST and boy, it was the perfect way to start.  The first review I read of Antiviral gave it shit for being too Cronenbergy because it was made by his Mr. Croneneberg’s son.  But had it been made by anyone not named Cronenberg, I’m pretty sure it would be considered the strongest first feature for a director this year.

Antiviral’s imagination has no limits.  The premise is so freaking awesome I don’t even want to explain it because I couldn’t do it justice.  And once you get 20 minutes in and understand what’s happening, it doesn’t become a one trick pony.  The movie keeps adding elements and pealing layers to the dystopian future ingeniously.  As you watch, you simultaneously think, “That is absolutely absurd” as well as “Holy shit, that could totally happen.”

The movie could probably lose 10 minutes somewhere, but that doesn’t take away from it at all.  I’m gonna be interested to see what more people think of this because I thought it was absolutely brilliant.  Caleb Landry Jones could totally be the next Michael Shannon and he’s amazing in Antiviral.

I don’t know man.  I’m pretty stoked about this movie and can’t wait to see it again.  That doesn’t happen much.
