CATCHING HELL: One of the things I love about ESPN’s 30 for 30 documentaries is most of them are relatively short. They cut the fat and get right to the meat of a topic. Unless you have a very broad documentary, it’s hard to keep interest for 90+ minutes. Catching Hell is not short and there’s a lot of fat to be cut. But that doesn’t mean it’s not good.
A lot of the same questions are asked and a lot of the same themes are repeated, but Catching Hell is an interesting look at scapegoating but also sports fandom. As a die hard Denver Nuggets fan, I don’t know how I would react if I thought someone ruined the chance for my beloved Blue and Yellow to win a championship. I’d like to think I wouldn’t be a total dick like a lot of the people did in Chicago, but you never know.
If you’re new to the 30 for 30 series, you may not want to dive into this one first, but you should check it out in the long run.
